Capdevila revealed that his authorization to travel under the U.S. ESTA program was refused, reportedly because of a previous visit to Iran in 2016 for an exhibition football match. Under current U.S. travel rules, some travelers who have visited certain countries are required to apply for a full visa instead of using the visa waiver program.

The former defender publicly appealed for assistance, expressing his disappointment at the possibility of missing the World Cup Final, where he had planned to support Spain alongside former teammates.
